Let’s learn about United States Expansion
The history started in 1803, President Thomas Jefferson purchased the territory of Louisiana from the French government for fifteen million.
Louisiana Purchase stretched from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains and from Canada to New Orleans and do the Westward Expansion to the United States.
Louisiana Purchase was the turning point in America history! It was the start of Manifest Density. It’s what American believe that their right to expand and settle coast to coast also the Homestead Act which means that they are allowed to purchase land in the New territory at the very low price. * Fun fact before the new land was opened people were waiting in line and stand surrounded by the place after the new land open everyone starts running and run to the new land.
After expanding the land, there are more ways that the United States can gain a lot of money and more ways to transport thing across the country like Santa Fe Trail, the Oregon Trail, the Transcontinental Railroad, and canals. For this, I think it’s good because there are many ways for people to sell a thing to other country and gain lot more of money and make the life easier.
In the years leading up to the Missouri Compromise of 1820, tensions began to rise between pro-slavery and anti-slavery factions within the U.S. Congress and across the country. It turned Maine into a free state and Missouri into slave states. But they are not okay with that so they created a side “anti-slavery and pro-slavery” and they protect for the better good.
Compromise of 1850
The Compromise of 1850 consists of five laws passed in September of 1850 that dealt with the issue of slavery. In 1849 California requested permission to enter the Union as a free state. on January 29, 1850, in an attempt to seek a compromise and avert a crisis between North and South. As part of the Compromise of 1850, the Fugitive Slave Act was amended and the slave trade in Washington, D.C. was abolished.
The Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed by the U.S. Congress on May 30, 1854. It allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide themselves whether they will allow slavery within their borders or not. In the pro-slavery South it was strongly supported, but not the north.
After the Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed, pro-slavery and anti-slavery supporters quickly come to the settle Kansas to affect the outcome of the first election held there after the law went into effect. But the Pro-slavery settlers carried the election but were charged with fraud by anti-slavery. But at the end, the result is not what they excepted, so the anti-slavery held another election. But at this time make both sides are not okay with the Kansas territory.
After that violence begins, with the anti-slavery forces led by John Brown. The territory called “Bleeding Kansas” as the death toll rose. At last Kansas admitted to the Union as a free state.
Opinion: In my opinion, I don’t like people who support slavery because we are people, we shouldn’t treat other people lower than us, even tho if they’re poor, doesn’t mean they are bad people.
